What is “GOING GREEN”?

SAY Soccer’s “GOING GREEN” campaign is our nationwide marketing and education initiative aimed at protecting underage (U18) and first-year referees. This campaign supports the U.S. Soccer Referee Abuse Prevention Policy 531-9, while empowering local community programs with tools to build safe, supportive environments for all officials.

🟢 The Green Patch = A Referee Who Needs Your Support

At the heart of this initiative is the new SAY GREEN PATCH—a visible, on-field symbol worn by referees who are either:

✔️ Under 18 years of age

✔️ In their first year of officiating

This patch serves as a clear reminder to coaches, players, and spectators:

Be Patient. Be Supportive. Show Respect.

These referees are still learning—and how we treat them will determine whether they stay in the game.
